How to Train your Dragon: The Day of the Dreader by Cressida Cowell

The blurb says:

HICCUP HORRENDOUS HADDOCK THE THIRD was an awesome swordfighter, a dragon whisperer and the greatest Viking Hero that ever lived.

The Isle of Berk is being stalked by the Big Dreader, and the Hooligans are trapped without any food! It’s the Day of the Dreader, and he is ANGRY. Can Hiccup save the day yet again?

A bit about the author

Cressida Cowell is author of the fabulous How to Train your Dragon series and co-author of the Emily Brown series. She has written this short story for the World Book Day 2012.

What is How to Train your Dragon: The Day of the Dreader all about?

The vikings are in trouble, a terrible sea dragon is lurking in the fertile fishing ground surrounding the Isle of Berk. The dragon is preventing them from fishing for their dinner! What will they do? Call on Hiccup of course! But, there’s a problem, Hiccup’s disobedient dragon, Toothless doesn’t want to go because he’s too scared.

What was my favourite bit of the story?

There’s this really funny bit when Toothless finds some dragon eggs and they hatch ….. but you’ll have to read it to find out what happens next.

Who would I recommend this book to?

I think girls and boys will love this book.

Other books I have read by this author:

  • How to Train your Dragon
  • How to Train your Dragon: How to Steal a Dragon’s Sword
  • How to Train your Dragon: How to Twist a Dragon’s Tale

Other books I want to read by this author:

I’d love to read all the other How to Train your Dragon books

Hiccup the Viking who was seasick – this tells the story of Hiccup before he began training dragons – Cool!

A note from my human’s grown ups:

Who couldn’t love these stories – full of fantastic illustrations and brilliant tales, making them great for young and old alike.
